Specifically, it is used to separate a solid from a liquid as well as a liquid from another liquid of different densities. The substance we are handling is immersed in a rotor that rotates around its central axis with great acceleration. The centrifugal acceleration that is created acts on the substance in such a way that the heavier components tend to be arranged on the outer surface.
