Absorbable P.G.A. Sutures

Synthetic absorbent polyglycolic acid surgical suture. Synthetic Absorbent PGA Surgical Suture is used to hold and converge soft tissues, even in eye surgeries. It is not indicated for use in cardiovascular and neurological procedures. After the implantation of the synthetic absorbent surgical suture PGA, a moderate local inflammation of the tissues is observed, followed by its gradual implantation in fibrous connective tissue.
This is followed by a gradual loss of strength and suture mass due to its absorption with the help of the hydrolysis mechanism in which the polymer is broken down into glycolic acid which is absorbed and undergoes body-to-body metabolism. During the absorption of the PGA suture, a loss of its strength is initially observed without a significant loss of its mass. The PGA suture has a sustained strength of more than 75% of the European Pharmacopoeia requirement at the end of the second week of implantation and over 35% at the end of the third week. The absorption of the suture is completed in a period of 50 – 90 days.
